Mark Rothko, No. 1 (No. 18, 1948), 1948/49. Oil on canvas, gift of Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd (Blanchette Hooker, class of 1931).
Described by the press as “Vassar’s Gift to the Valley,” the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center opened to the public in 1993, giving Hudson Valley art lovers free access to the college’s collection of works spanning the history of art from antiquity to the present. One of the nation’s finest teaching museums, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center is an important resource not only for the Poughkeepsie community but for thousands of visitors each year who travel to the Hudson Valley, drawn by its growing reputation as an arts destination. We invite you to join the Art Center and to become an active supporter of the vibrant cultural life of our community.
As a member, you will receive invitations to exhibition openings, lectures, tours of artists’ studios, private collections, and special events. You will also receive the art center’s newsletter, Art at Vassar, and other benefits listed below.
Your membership is vitally important in supporting art education and outreach programs for the community, the development of exhibitions, and the acquisition of works for the collection.
