Out of Shape: Stylistic Distortions of the Human Form in Art from the Logan Collection

When: March 14 – June 8, 2008

Where: Prints and Drawings Galleries and Twentieth-Century Galleries

About the show

From the collection of Vicki (class of 1968) and Kent Logan, who have amassed one of the most important private collections of international contemporary art in the United States, this exhibition focuses on the work of artists who have used the portrait to explore issues of psychological identity as well as to reinvent figuration as a conceptual tool. In the work of such artists as Lisa Yuskavage, George Condo, Marc Quinn, Nicola Tyson, and Francesco Clemente, the human form takes on a radically expressive shape, while other artists such as Laylah Ali, Chris Ofili, John Currin, and Cecily Brown portray their human subjects with distinctive stylistic distortions. The exhibition comprises works on paper by over twenty-five contemporary artists along with a small selection of paintings and sculptures. Also included in the exhibition will be work by Kim Dingle, Nicole Eisenman, Lijun Fang, Moyna Flanagan, Antony Gormley, Gottfried Helwein, Kurt Kauper, Kelly McLane, Jason Middlebrook, Bruce Nauman, Manuel Neri, Richard Phillips, Mel Ramos, Thomas Schütte, Andy Warhol, John Wesley, and Su-en Wong.

This exhibition and its publication are supported by the Friends of the Frances Lehman Loeb Exhibition Fund.
