Exhibition: April 9-August 1, 2004
About the exhibition
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the art of maiolica – beautifully decorated tin-glazed earthenware – flourished throughout Italy, with major centers of production in Faenza, Urbino and Tuscany. One of the few major collections of Italian Renaissance maiolica in the United States is the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s William A. Clark Collection, notable for the quality, variety, and condition of its objects. Marvels of Maiolica is organized by the Corcoran Gallery of Art Collection, and is made possible by the Scott Opler Foundation, Inc. It features plates, apothecary jars, inkwells, and other types of decorative wares. Supported at Vassar by The Smart Family Foundation, Inc., the exhibition is accompanied by a publication by Assistant Professor Jacqueline Musacchio of the Department of Art, Vassar College.
